Farm Tours at Matter's Farm to Table

Experience the rhythm of real farm life on our family farm in Delano, Minnesota! Our farm tours offer a hands-on, educational journey through our 170 year old working farm, giving visitors of all ages a behind-the-scenes look at sustainable agriculture, animal care, and traditional farm practices.

Tour Highlights:

  • Start with our friendly flock and goats: Meet our chickens and goats, collect fresh eggs, and give treats to our feathered and furry friends. We'll introduce you to the farm and share how our egg business operates.
  • Visit the Dairy Barn: Get up close with our cows and calves in our working dairy barn. Learn about the modern dairy industry, daily operations, dairy misconceptions and what it really takes to care for a milking herd. Meet our cows and calves.
  • Venture into the beautiful woods to learn all about maple syrup production—from tapping trees and collecting sap to the boiling process that turns it into our award-winning pure maple syrup.
  • Enjoy a delicious tasting experience: We'll sample different varieties of our maple syrups and homemade maple mustards—a sweet and savory treat straight from the farm!
  • Wrap up with the opportunity to purchase our fresh, farm-direct goods, including maple products, eggs, beef, and more—straight from our fields to your table.

Tours last 90–120 minutes and are fully outdoors, so please dress appropriately for the weather! Minnesota weather can be unpredictable:

  • Recommended: Mud boots (or sturdy, waterproof footwear) and farm-appropriate clothing that can get a little dirty.
  • If it's remotely chilly: Layer up with snow pants, jackets, gloves, and hats—it's always better to have too many warm clothes than not enough!

Important Notes:

  • This tour is not wheelchair accessible, and it's not stroller- or wagon-friendly due to uneven terrain, woods paths, and farm conditions.
  • Those with strong aversions or allergies to farm animals or typical farm smells may want to skip this experience.
  • Our tours are highly informative—we love answering all your questions and sharing knowledge about our animals, sustainable farming practices, and the art of maple syrup making. There will be 3 approx 15 minute presentations (intro/eggs,dairy,maple) in which we ask for you to be quiet and attentive. You'll leave with new insights and appreciation for where your food comes from!
